About Us
We are a small family run business that has been log building and teaching log building in British Columbia since 1976. We have a fine reputation for producing excellent log work. Del and son Jarret can be seen on the worksite in Joe Rich with their chain saws doing what they do best, making the intricate cuts that only a craftsman is able to perform. This is where overscribing the lateral groove to create a compression fit notch began!
Our History
Master log builder Del Radomske has spent over 30 years contributing to the log building industry and has been a driving force in the development of modern log building standards. His experience in log construction began in 1975 after taking a log building course. In 1976, Del founded Radomske Log Homes and in the early days he acted as general contractor, log builder and instructor. During this time, Radomske Log Homes built many log homes for Canadians as well as exporting to the US and Japan.
Del is well respected for his high standards as both a builder and a teacher and has taught the art of log building since 1977. Del also established Okanagan School of Log Building 1986 – 2006 and trained many log builders for the log building industry. Del was very active in the initial development of the Log Builder Apprenticeship program. In addition Del also taught courses at Okanagan University College, Kelowna, BC; Mackie School of Log Building in Prince George, BC; Colorado Mountain College, Colorado Springs, CO; Ohakune School of Log Building, Ohakune, New Zealand; Okanagan School of Log Building in Kanagawa Prefecture Japan.
History of Overscribing
By the late 1970’s Del was developing the log building system that has revolutionized the handcrafted log building industry.
Since the early days, Del has endeavored to improve the building techniques that are used in Log Building. For example, Del discovered that a log home built with the notches and lateral grooves initially tight eventually had the notches and lateral grooves open up over time. He also designed the 4-point saddle notch that works synergistically with overscribing. The uniformity and cleanness of lines of the 4-point saddle notch enhanced the overall appearance and strengthen the integrity of the cut logs. The 4-point saddle notch is described a 4 lines running into one point because the scarf lines are cut uniformly, This gives the appearance that the logs have melded together.
In addition, Del developed a mathematical system that individuals can use to determine the proper selection and placement of logs on a building. Proper selection of logs ensures that the walls of a building are the same height. Del can easily teach this log selection system to employees of Radomske Log Homes and to students of Okanagan school of Log Building.
All of Del’s innovations have improved the quality of log homes and many companies now incorporate these innovations into their building techniques because of the superior results.
For Del determining where a log should be placed in a building came naturally but for many this is no easy task. So he developed a mathematical system that he could teach to others, both employees of Radomske Log Homes and the people that he taught.

“We want to recognize and honour people
in the industry who have made a significant contribution to the
craft,” said past ILBA President, John Boys. “Del’s
work in teaching the trade has been exceptional and his experimenting
with over-scribing a real benefit to the industry.”

Jarret Radomske is both a log builder and log building instructor. He has taught log building at Okanagan School of Log Building, Okanagan University College and at Moose Mountain Log Homes, Cochrane, AB. His log building experience began as a child when he would hang out with his Dad on the worksite and with the log builders and students. Eventually he was log building and he has become an excellent log builder. He loves working with logs and creating beautiful log work.
